Yes, ArtSpan's SF Open Studios is here to stay!
This year ArtSpan returns with SF Wide-Open Studios (SFOS), a two month-long festival season of artful happenings occurring across the San Francisco Bay Area; including Artist-Hosted Events running from now through 10/17 and the SFOS Showcase Exhibition from 10/22-11/21.
A beloved annual tradition since 1975, SFOS offers residents and tourists the opportunity to directly engage with the hundreds of local artists responsible for the unique creative culture and vibrancy that attracts admirers from all over the world.
SF Open Studios' History
ArtSpan evolved from SF Open Studios (SFOS), begun in 1975 by a small group of enterprising artists who concurrently opened their studios to the public annually over one weekend to increase the accessibility of their work. Following the devastation of the 1989 earthquake, these artists created a strong organization to ensure SFOS would remain a San Francisco tradition, and in 1991, ArtSpan received its nonprofit, tax-exempt status. SFOS has grown exponentially, spanning four weekends, with over 800 participating artists and 100,000+ visitors.*
